Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Pushpesh:
We are aware of your contribution to the ecosystem, talk us through your background and your journey, please;
My philosophy of life has always been:
“ Believe in yourself and in your dreams because if you don’t then no one else will”
I guess this is the one thing I have always done in my personal and professional life, I am from a small town called Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh and I was mostly surrounded by people who neither believed themselves nor believed me. The day I start believing in something I put my head, my heart, and my hands into it.
I always feel that in life whenever someone pulls us up or does any act of kindness to us, it’s very rare that the same person will require similar help or assistance as most of the time, people who have helped us are ahead of us in career graph as well as in life stage, therefore to make this world a better place we need to be encouragers and we need to give forward, therefore I decided to coach youngsters and share my thoughts, ideas, and experiences.”
Therefore, I thought to make a little difference by giving direction to youngsters on various aspects of life be it Job Hunting, Resume development, helping them uncover their own potential, encouraging them and showing them a more practical way of life rather than bookish version “how to do XYZ”.
I myself did many courses & certifications from MIT- Sloan, IIM- Bangalore etc to learn and become a much more productive and successful professional, as I am a Graduate from not a very well-known college and my career started with selling fire Safety Cylinders at Ceasefire but the journey has been quite transformational with many prestigious brands like Times of India, Yahoo, NDTV, LinkedIn and currently with ZEE5 as Regional Head for North.
Today I run my own courses around Art of Sales, Leadership and Job hunting and if you ask me what I am good at I would say, I am good at Building People, Businesses & Markets.”
How did you find your passion and purpose and started working with it?
Just like many people I was not aware of my passion and purpose. Of course, there was something missing in life and the challenges I faced were simply trying to tell me to look in a new direction for a new journey. However, I was able to find it with the help of my mentor. Hence, I strongly believe in the power of mentoring and coaching because that changed my life.
So I would say my Passion is Sales and to transform people to become a better version of themselves, I am at a leadership position in Digital Ad Sales domain which helps me in living my life with passion and profession at the same time.
I started my course “Art of Sales” on Entri app to transform young audience to know the skill of sales, to become problem solvers not just for the organisations but for themselves as well as for the society.
My purpose in life is to make the youngsters realise to find happiness in life and not just success. In our country from early childhood, we are made to look up to Successful people, not Happy people. We make those as our Idol who are very successful, but we don’t know if they are genuinely happy with their success or not. A success for the society which brings pain to you is of no worth, we need to stop living the false life of just doing things for the sake of society. Success is great only if it brings happiness.
What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation?
‘To become a better version of myself and to inspire at least 1 person in a day to become a better version of himself’. I get motivation from within if I realise that I have transformed or have transformed others to become a better, calmer and much happier personality. This realisation gives me a sense of achievement and excitement to remain happy and keep moving.
How do you manage yourself and keep on going despite the challenges? What drives you?
I always believe that the same boiling water that softens the potato, hardens the egg, therefore, it’s all about what you’re made of and the one thing which has always kept me going is I never get affected by the outside world’s criticism or the outside circumstances, I feel good or bad basis what I think from within.
As I mentioned above, I always give priority to happiness over success, If you are not happy but you are successful it’s useless. That’s why in my professional life I like to keep a balance between my work and my life, I try to travel, spend time with my family, and try to do things that genuinely make me happy. Travelling & exploring the world helps me clear my mind and focus on issues that need my attention.
Please share with us what has worked well for you so far?
One thing I would say that helped me to grow professionally is the ability to solve problems. I always believe that the eventual objective of life is to solve problems, but you should not try to fix every problem, just focus on one that excites you.
The more we listen to Problems in a deeper manner, the more efficiently and effectively we can resolve them.
In your opinion what are the keys to success?
I will say it straight that there are many factors but if you really have to have the key elements then to me there is just one – “Be a Problem Solver”
We would love to know your advice for all those starting out?
Do things which genuinely makes you happy and believe in yourself even if nobody else does.
